WORDS OF WELCOME

ADORATION

CALL TO WORSHIP

ONE: There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them.

ALL: There are different ways of serving, but the same God is served.

ONE: There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives ability to each of us for our particular service.

ALL: The Spirit’s presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all.

ONE: Christ is like a single body with many parts.

ALL Is it still one body even though it is made up of different parts.

ONE: If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts suffer with it; if one part is praised, all the other parts joyfully celebrate.

ALL: All of us are Christ’s body, and each one is a part of it.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Loving God, in whom we live and move and have our being. You breathe life and Spirit into us. You call us to learn and grow, and to teach others the lessons that we have learned. Thank you for the gift of teachers, and the many opportunities we have to learn. May we never stop learning. Amen.

MESSAGE FOR THE CHILDREN

REMEMBRANCE of SEPTEMBER 11th

 OPENING SENTENCES                                                            Psalm 46:1-3, 7

ONE: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

ALL: Lord of hosts, be with us still.

ONE: Therefore, we shall not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be hurled into the sea; though its waters rage and foam, though the mountains tremble at its tumult.

ALL: Lord of hosts, be with us still.

ONE MINUTE of SILENCE in REMEMBRANCE of

Give us grace to pray for enemies, and to forgive them, even as you have forgiven us; through Jesus Christ, who was crucified but is risen, whom we praise forever. Amen.

LOUISE: Teachers, please stand. God has called you as educators. Being an educator requires energy, patience, commitment, hard work, and a heart for God’s work and God’s children. Do you accept this call?

TEACHERS: I do.

LAUREN: Playschool Teachers, You have been called to serve God in this place by teaching our smallest ones. You will teach colors, letters, and numbers, as well as foundational lessons of how to be a human being.  Will you serve with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?

PLAYSCHOOL TEACHERS: We will.

AARON: Sunday School teachers and other church educators, You have been called to teach the faith to those in your congregation, from the youngest to the oldest. You are called to teach and to learn lessons from the Bible, deep spiritual truths, and to mutually call one another to deeper faith and life. Will you serve with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?

SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS: We will.

SUSAN: Lord our God, we are like trees planted by the Living Water of your Word. May we meditate on your Word day and night. Your Spirit calls out to us in the business of our lives to learn her wisdom, to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not to rely on our own understanding.

Bless the teachers called to these particular ministries, whether they are here in person or elsewhere. Give them your strength when they have none and your peace that passes all understanding. Help them to remember that they are called to learn as well. Bless all of their students, no matter the age, and give them a great year of learning and growth. Bless also all of the students, teachers, staff, and administration of the many schools around us. Keep them all safe and in your tender loving kindness.

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen

*HYMN Blue Hymnal#324           “Open My Eyes That I May See”

  1. Open my eyes that I may see Glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;

place in my hands the wonderful key That shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Thy will to see;

Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

  1. Open my ears, that I may hear Voices of truth Thou sendest clear;

And while the wave notes fall on my ear, Everything false will disappear.

Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Thy will to see;

Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!

  1. Open my mouth, and let me bear Gladly the warm truth everywhere;

Open my heart, and let me prepare Love with Thy children thus to share.

Silently now I wait for Thee, Ready, my God, Thy will to see;

Open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

*CHARGE AND BENEDICTION: Right and Left sides of the sanctuary (facing the pulpit)

ONE: Look around you friends, look around you. Who is the person standing next to you?

RIGHT: The person next to me is a beloved child of God, a living example of the Word-Made-Flesh of God’s continuing presence in the world, of God’s continuing “coming” into our midst.

LEFT: The person next to me is unique, a combination of needs and possibilities, smiles and frowns, laughter and tears, fears and hopes, all struggling to find expression.

ONE: Friends, look around you . . . each of you are heirs of God’s promise, God’s adopted and beloved children.

RIGHT: Go out from this place renewed by the Spirit.

LEFT: We will go where God sends us for we have been fed and equipped for service

ONE: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing you are beloved children of God, and that God has claimed you as special.

ALL: We come and we go, we live and breathe as children of God. Thanks be to God! Alleluia! Amen.
