of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.

I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;

it satisfies my longings as nothing else could do.

Refrain:

I love to tell the story; ’twill be my theme in glory

to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.

2 I love to tell the story; ’tis pleasant to repeat

what seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet!

CALL TO WORSHIP 2 Timothy 2:8

ONE: Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead.

MANY: This is the good news we proclaim.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Source of Life,

in Jesus Christ you do not call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Draw us away from the easy road that leads to destruction, and guide us into paths that lead to life abundant,

that in seeking your truth, and obeying your will, we may know the joy of being a disciple of Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue#380][GTG#793] “O Christ the Healer”

1 O Christ, the healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends. How can we fail to be restored

when reached by love that never ends?

2 From every ailment flesh endures our bodies clamor to be freed;

yet in our hearts we would confess

that wholeness is our deepest need.

3 How strong, O Lord, are our desires, how weak our knowledge of ourselves! Release in us those healing truths

unconscious pride resists or shelves.

4 In conflicts that destroy our health we recognize the world’s disease;

our common life declares our ills. Is there no cure, O Christ, for these?

5 Grant that we all, made one in faith, in your community may find

the wholeness that, enriching us, shall reach the whole of humankind.

PRELUDE Prelude III by George Gershwin

✝PROCESSIONAL HYMN [Blue#][GTG#506] “Look Who Gathers at Christ’s Table”

1 Look who gathers at Christ’s table! Hear the stories that they bring.

 Some are weeping; some are laughing; some have songs they want to sing. Others ask why they’re invited, burdened by the wrong they’ve done. Christ insists they all are welcome.

There is room for everyone.

2 Clouds of light surround the table; ancient followers appear,

 saints confessing how they wrestled with their guilt,

their doubt and fear.Peter tells of his denying  Christ was ever in his sight; Paul relates his fruitless efforts to obliterate the light.

3 Their sad stories are repeated in a thousand different ways, but they share one thing in common: they all end in thanks and praise

For the host who has invited north and south and east and west

 to converge around this table,  where all life is fed and blest.

4 Bring your joy and bring your sadness, and prepare to be surprised

 by the host whose hands are wounded,

 who will open wide your eyes When he blesses bread and breaks it truth and manna from above!

 and then passes wine that wakens in your heart the taste of love.

2 All thy works with joy surround thee;

earth and heaven reflect thy rays;

stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise.

Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea,

chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in thee.

3 Mortals, join the happy chorus which the morning stars began.

Love divine is reigning o’er us, joining all in heaven’s plan.

Ever singing, march we onward, victors in the midst of strife.

Joyful music leads us sunward in the triumph song of life.

ADORATION

CALL TO WORSHIP     Ps. 139 and Jeremiah 18

ONE:  Like clay on a wheel,

MANY: God forms us: shaping us, molding us, creating us.

ONE: And like moldable clay,

MANY: God continues to shape us.

ONE: Let us worship The Lord our God.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Direct and help us, O Lord,

in all our deeds, that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy name, and finally, by your mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, forever and ever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue#84][GTG#213] “In the Cross of Christ I Glory”

1 In the cross of Christ I glory, towering o’er the wrecks of time;

all the light of sacred story gathers round its head sublime.

2 When the woes of life o’ertake me, hopes deceive, and fears annoy,

never shall the cross forsake me; lo, it glows with peace and joy.

3 When the sun of bliss is beaming light and love upon my way,

from the cross the radiance streaming adds more luster to the day.

4 Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure, by the cross are sanctified;

peace is there that knows no measure, joys that through all time abide.

5 In the cross of Christ I glory, towering o’er the wrecks of time;

all the light of sacred story gathers round its head sublime.

SILENT CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Creator God, you know us better than anyone else. You formed us in your own image. And yet, we sometimes stray from the gift you’ve given us. We keep people at a distance, letting systemic and personal barriers get in the way of relationships. Forgive us, Lord. Let us hear your call to change and do better. Empower us to ask for forgiveness from those whom we have wronged. Help us to think of you and those around us.

✝AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostle’s Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,  and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

RECEIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue#343] [GTG#761] “Called as Partners in Christ’s Service”

1 Called as partners in Christ’s service, called to ministries of grace, we respond with deep commitment

 fresh new lines of faith to trace.

May we learn the art of sharing, side by side and friend with friend, equal partners in our caring to fulfill God’s chosen end.

2 Christ’s example, Christ’s inspiring,

Christ’s clear call to work and worth,

 let us follow, never faltering, reconciling folk on earth.

Men and women, richer, poorer,

all God’s people, young and old,

blending human skills together gracious gifts from God unfold.

3 Thus new patterns for Christ’s mission, in a small or global sense,help us bear each other’s burdens,

 breaking down each wall or fence.

Words of comfort, words of vision, words of challenge, said with care, bring new power and strength

for action,make us colleagues, free and fair.

4 So God grant us for tomorrow ways to order human life

 that surround each person’s sorrow

 with a calm that conquers strife.

Make us partners in our living, our compassion to increase,

 messengers of faith, thus giving hope and confidence and peace.

✝PARTING PRAYER

Eternal Being,

light of the minds that know you, life of the souls that love you,

strength of the thoughts that seek you: Help us so to know you

that we may truly love you, so to love you that we may fully serve you, whose service is perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

✝CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

✝RESPONSE [Blue#393][GTG#718] “Take Up Your Cross, the Savior Said”

 1 Take up your cross, the Savior said, if you would my disciple be;

take up your cross with willing heart, and humbly follow after me.

ADORATION

CALL TO WORSHIP       Romans 12:1

ONE:  Present your bodies as a living sacrifice,

MANY: This is our spiritual worship

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Almighty God,

you have taught us that all our deeds without love are worth nothing. Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts

that most excellent gift of love, the very bond of peace and of all goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue#][GTG#435] “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy”

1 There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea.

There’s a kindness in God’s justice, which is more than liberty.

There is no place where earth’s sorrows

are more felt than up in heaven.

There is no place where earth’s failings

have such kindly judgment given.

2 For the love of God is broader than the measures of the mind.

And the heart of the Eternal is most wonderfully kind.

If our love were but more faithful, we would gladly trust God’s Word,

and our lives reflect thanksgiving for the goodness of our Lord.
