THE PEOPLE ARE GATHERED IN

PRELUDE “Jesus, Joy of Man’s Desiring” arr. J. S. Bach

✝PROCESSIONAL HYMN [Blue#442][GTG#321] “The Church’s One Foundation”

1 The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord.

She is his new creation by water and the word.

From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride.

With his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.

2 Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth,

her charter of salvation: one Lord, one faith, one birth.

One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food,

and to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

3 Though with a scornful wonder this world sees her oppressed,

by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed,

yet saints their watch are keeping; their cry goes up: “How long?”

And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

4 Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war,

she waits the consummation of peace forevermore:

till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest,

and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.

5 Yet she on earth has union with God, the Three in One,

and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won:

O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we,

like them, the meek and lowly, may live eternally.

WORDS OF WELCOME

ANNOUNCEMENTS

ADORATION

CALL TO WORSHIP based on Psalm 107

ONE: Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,

those God redeemed from trouble;

MANY: They cried to the Lord in their trouble,

and God delivered them from their distress.

ONE: Let us thank the Lord for God’s steadfast love,

For God satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Almighty God,

Your Son Jesus Christ fed the hungry with the bread of his life

and the Word of his kingdom. Renew your people with your heavenly grace, and in all our weakness sustain us by your true and living bread, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue#333][GTG#175] “Seek Ye First”

1 Seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness,

 and all these things shall be added unto you.

 Allelu, alleluia!

2 Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and you shall find;

 knock, and the door shall be opened unto you.

 Allelu, alleluia!

3 You shall not live by bread alone, but by every word

 that proceeds from the mouth of God.

 Allelu, alleluia!

4 Come, labor on. No time for rest, till glows the western sky,

till the long shadows o’er our pathway lie, and a glad sound comes with the setting sun, “Well done, well done!”

REPENTANCE

CALL TO CONFESSION

SILENT CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of the risen Christ, you broke the power of sin and evil. Yet we still live in the tombs of forgetfulness, anxiety and fear. We have failed to love you as we should. We have neglected to love our neighbor. In fact, we have even failed to love ourselves. Release us from the tombs that terrify us so we can see your image in one another and in your good creation. Truly, free us from the graves of self-hatred so we can see ourselves as your children. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

✝GLORIA PATRI [Blue#579[ [GTG581]

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

SERMON  “Where is Your Heart?” CP Ford Dieth

 RESPONSE

✝AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostle’s Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,  and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

RECEIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY  “Deep River” arr. H.T Burleigh, Vocals: Ron Palmisano with Piano: Randy Martono-Chai

✝ DOXOLOGY [GTG#606]

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise God, all creatures here below;

Praise God above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue#388][GTG#724] “O Jesus, I have Promised”

1 O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;

be thou forever near me, my Master and my friend;

I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side,

nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide.

2 O let me feel thee near me! The world is ever near:

I see the sights that dazzle; the tempting sounds I hear.

My foes are ever near me, around me and within;

but, Jesus, draw thou nearer and shield my soul from sin.

3 O let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still,

above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will;

O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;

O speak, and make me listen, thou guardian of my soul.

4 O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee

that where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be.

And, Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;

O give me grace to follow, my Master and my friend.

✝PARTING PRAYER   United Church of Canada*

Grant unto us, O God, the fullness of your promises. Where we have been weak, grant us your strength; where we have been confused, grant us your guidance; where we have been distraught, grant us your comfort; where we have been dead, grant us your life. Apart from you, O Lord, we are nothing, in and with you we can do all things. Amen.

✝CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

✝RESPONSE [Blue#422][GTG#716] “God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending”

3 Treasure, too, you have entrusted, gain through powers your grace conferred: ours to use for home and kindred,

and to spread the gospel word.

Open wide our hands in sharing, as we heed Christ’s ageless call,

healing, teaching, and reclaiming, serving you by loving all.
