✝PROCESSIONAL HYMN [Blue#262][GTG#331] God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand

1 God of the ages, whose almighty hand

leads forth in beauty all the starry band

of shining worlds in splendor through the skies,

our grateful songs before thy throne arise.

2 Thy love divine hath led us in the past.

In this free land by thee our lot is cast.

Be thou our ruler, guardian, guide, and stay:

thy word our law, thy paths our chosen way.

3 From war’s alarms, from deadly pestilence,

be thy strong arm our ever sure defense.

Thy true religion in our hearts increase.

Thy bounteous goodness nourish us in peace.

4 Refresh thy people on their toilsome way.

Lead us from night to never-ending day.

Fill all our lives with love and grace divine,

and glory, laud, and praise be ever thine.

WORDS OF WELCOME

ANNOUNCEMENTS

ADORATION

CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 66:20

ONE: Blessed is God, who hears our prayers,

MANY: whose steadfast love endures forever.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

O God,

you have prepared for those who love you joys beyond understanding. Pour into our hearts such love for you,

that, loving you above all else, we may obtain your promises,

which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue#][GTG#462] I Love to Tell the Story

1 I love to tell the story of unseen things above,

of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.

I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;

it satisfies my longings as nothing else could do.

Refrain:

I love to tell the story; ’twill be my theme in glory

to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.

2 I love to tell the story; ’tis pleasant to repeat

what seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet!

I love to tell the story, for some have never heard

the message of salvation from God’s own holy Word. [Refrain]

3 I love to tell the story, for those who know it best

seem hungering and thirsting to hear it, like the rest.

And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song,

’twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long. [Refrain]

REPENTANCE

CALL TO CONFESSION

SILENT CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal Lord,

you call us to come to you in the world, but we disobey you. We choose power and profit over the acts of love that you exemplify for us again and again. We are content to work within systems that oppress instead of working to change things. We forget that everything comes from you, and that we are just stewards of what you have given. We seek out mountain tops instead of being among your people. Forgive us God, for the times that we forget your call to fully follow your example in the world. Embolden us to live fully in your call: to love our neighbor.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

✝GLORIA PATRI [Blue#579[ [GTG581]

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

THE WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED

1st SCRIPTURE Psalm 67

May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, Selah

that your way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations.

Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah

Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.

The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us.

May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him.

2nd  SCRIPTURE     John 5: 1-9

After this there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in Hebrew Beth-zatha, which has five porticoes. In these lay many invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down ahead of me.” Jesus said to him, “Stand up, take your mat and walk.” At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk. Now that day was a sabbath.

ONE: The Word of the Lord

MANY: Thanks be to God

SERMON  “Do you want to be made well?”  CP Ford Dieth

 RESPONSE

✝AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostle’s Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,  and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

RECEIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY  Pie Jesu (from Requiem, Op. 48) by G. Fauré

✝ DOXOLOGY [GTG#609]

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise God, all creatures here below;

Praise God above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

PRAYER OF DEDICATION

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [Blue #139][GTG#2] Come, Thou Almighty King,

1 Come, thou almighty King, help us thy name to sing;

help us to praise: Father, all glorious, o’er all victorious,

come, and reign over us, Ancient of Days.

2 Come, thou incarnate Word, merciful, mighty Lord,

our prayer attend. Come, and thy people bless,

and give thy word success; Spirit of holiness,

on us descend.

3 Come, holy Comforter, thy sacred witness bear

in this glad hour. Thou who almighty art,

now rule in every heart, and ne’er from us depart,

Spirit of power.

4 To thee, great One in Three, eternal praises be,

hence evermore! Thy sovereign majesty

may we in glory see, and to eternity

love and adore.

✝PARTING PRAYER

Grant unto us, O God, the fullness of your promises.

Where we have been weak, grant us your strength;

where we have been confused, grant us your guidance;

where we have been distraught, grant us your comfort;

where we have been dead, grant us your life.

Apart from you, O Lord, we are nothing,

in and with you we can do all things. Amen.

✝CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

✝RESPONSE [Blue#435][GTG#733] We All Are One in Mission

2 We all are called for service

to witness in God’s name.

Our ministries are different;

our purpose is the same:

to touch the lives of others

by God’s surprising grace,

so every folk and nation.

may feel God’s warm embrace.
