PRELUDE        My Lord What A Morning by Raymond Haan

✝PROCESSIONAL HYMN [*Blue #314][GTG#285]

“Like the Murmur of the Dove’s Song”      BRIDEGROOM

1 Like the murmur of the dove’s song,

like the challenge of her flight,

like the vigor of the wind’s rush,

like the new flame’s eager might:

Come, Holy Spirit, come.

2 To the members of Christ’s body,

to the branches of the Vine,

to the church in faith assembled,

to our midst as gift and sign:

Come, Holy Spirit, come.

3 With the healing of division,

with the ceaseless voice of prayer,

with the power to love and witness,

with the peace beyond compare:

Come, Holy Spirit, come.

WORDS OF WELCOME

CALL TO WORSHIP Matt. 9:13

ONE: The Lord desires mercy, not sacrifice

MANY: Jesus calls not the righteous, but sinners.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

O God, you have assured the human family of eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Savior. Deliver us from the death of sin

and raise us to new life in him, who lives and reigns with you

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [*Blue #429] [GTG#298]

Lord, You Give the Great Commission ABBOT’S LEIGH

1 Lord, you give the great commission:

“Heal the sick and preach the word.”

Lest the church neglect its mission, and the gospel go unheard,

help us witness to your purpose with renewed integrity:

with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

2 Lord, you call us to your service:

“In my name baptize and teach.”

That the world may trust your promise,

life abundant meant for each,

give us all new fervor, draw us closer in community:

with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

3 Lord, you make the common holy:

“This, my body; this, my blood.”

Let us all, for earth’s true glory, daily lift life heavenward,

asking that the world around us share your children’s liberty:

with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

4 Lord, you show us love’s true measure:

“Father, what they do, forgive.”

Yet we hoard as private treasure all that you so freely give.

May your care and mercy lead us to a just society:

with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

5 Lord, you bless with words assuring: “I am with you to the end.”

Faith and hope and love restoring, may we serve as you intend,

and, amid the cares that claim us, hold in mind eternity:

with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry.

MESSAGE FOR THE CHILDREN

CALL TO CONFESSION

SILENT CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of grace, love, and communion, we confess that we have failed to love you with all our heart, soul, and mind; and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We ignore your commandments, stray from your way, and follow other gods. Have mercy on us. Forgive our sin and raise us to new life that we may serve you faithfully and give honor to your holy name. Amen

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

✝GLORIA PATRI [BLUE#579] [GTG#581]

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end, Amen, Amen.

THE WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED

SCRIPTURE [Pew Bible OT 683 or 642}  Isaiah 52:3-12

For thus says the Lord: You were sold for nothing, and you shall be redeemed without money. For thus says the Lord God: Long ago, my people went down into Egypt to reside there as aliens; the Assyrian, too, has oppressed them without cause. Now therefore, what am I doing here, says the Lord, seeing that my people are taken away without cause? Their rulers howl, says the Lord, and continually, all day long, my name is despised. Therefore my people shall know my name; therefore on that day they shall know that it is I who speak; here am I.

How beautiful upon the mountains

   are the feet of the messenger who announces peace,

who brings good news,

   who announces salvation,

   who says to Zion, ‘Your God reigns.’

Listen! Your sentinels lift up their voices,

   together they sing for joy;

for in plain sight they see

   the return of the Lord to Zion.

Break forth together into singing,

   you ruins of Jerusalem;

for the Lord has comforted his people,

   he has redeemed Jerusalem.

The Lord has bared his holy arm

   before the eyes of all the nations;

and all the ends of the earth shall see

   the salvation of our God.

Depart, depart, go out from there!

   Touch no unclean thing;

go out from the midst of it, purify yourselves,

   you who carry the vessels of the Lord.

For you shall not go out in haste,

   and you shall not go in flight;

for the Lord will go before you,

   and the God of Israel will be your rearguard.

Matthew 28:16-20 [Pew Bible #32 or 34]

Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’

ONE: The Word of the Lord

MANY: Thanks be to God

SERMON “Proclaiming the Good News in Word and Deed” Rev. Ochart

 RESPONSE

✝AFFIRMATION OF FAITH        “A Brief Statement of Faith”- Jesus

In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.

 We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.

With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

✝HYMN [*Blue #563] [GTG#339]  “Lift Every Voice and Sing”

  1. Lift every voice and sing till earth and heaven ring,

ring with the harmonies of liberty.

Let our rejoicing rise high as the listening skies;

let it resound loud as the rolling sea.

Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us;

sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us.

Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,

let us march on, till victory is won.

  1. Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,

felt in the days when hope unborn had died.

Yet, with a steady beat, have not our weary feet

come to the place for which our parents sighed?

We have come over a way that with tears has been watered;

we have come, treading the path

through the blood of the slaughtered,

out of the gloomy past, till now we stand at last

where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

  1. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,

thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;

thou who hast by thy might led us into the light,

keep us forever in the path, we pray.

Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee;

lest our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee;

shadowed beneath thy hand may we forever stand,

true to our God, true to our native land.

✝PARTING PRAYER

Grant unto us, O God, the fullness of your promises.

where we have been weak, grant us your strength;

where we have been confused, grant us your guidance;

where we have been distraught, grant us your comfort;

where we have been dead, grant us your life.

Apart from you, O Lord, we are nothing,

in and with you we can do all things. Amen.

✝CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

✝RESPONSE [*Blue#432][GTG# 765] “Song of Hope” ARGENTINA

May the God of hope go with us every day,

filling all our lives with love and joy and peace.

May the God of justice speed us on our way,

bringing light and hope to every land and race.

Praying, let us work for peace; singing, share our joy with all;

working, for a world that’s new, faithful when we hear Christ’s call.

THE WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED

SCRIPTURE [Pew Bible NT #9]                         Matthew 9:35-38

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.’

ONE: The Word of the Lord

MANY: Thanks be to God

SERMON                             “Selflessness”                           Mike Isham

 RESPONSE

✝AFFIRMATION OF FAITH             Confession of Belhar

We believe that God has entrusted the church with the message of reconciliation in and through Jesus Christ;

that the church is called to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, that the church is called blessed because it is a peacemaker, that the church is witness both by word and by deed to the new heaven and the new earth in which righteousness dwells…

that the credibility of this message is seriously affected and its beneficial work obstructed when it is proclaimed in a land which professes to be Christian, but in which the enforced separation of people on a racial basis promotes and perpetuates alienation, hatred and enmity…

Therefore, we reject any doctrine which, in such a situation sanctions in the name of the gospel or of the will of God the forced separation of people on the grounds of race and color and thereby in advance obstructs and weakens the ministry and experience of reconciliation in Christ.

READING RECOMMENDATIONS:  Selfless: Becoming Christ-Centered in a Self-Centered World. None of us think we are self-centered; we know for a fact that our friends, spouses, and neighbors are selfish. But not ME! This very thought is a clue that we are the one that needs to change the central focus of our lives-away from ME and onto HIM! In the process of becoming Selfless you will come face to face with the reality that we all are carriers of this trait. We are allowing this sin to infiltrate every area of our lives. We are the ones responsible for allowing our self to stifle our purpose and the joy of fulfilling His plan in our lives and in our culture. We have made this life and this world about us, not about HIM. • Self less is a call to action; it begins with you and me • Self less will empower you to fulfill your calling • Self less men and women will develop into Self less families • Selfless churches will finally have the growth that they are seeking. Cultures change and nations change when we as individuals change. You will not be satisfied with your life as you know it. You will recognize the lies and the defeat of your previous perspective. You will never return to your self-centered self. YOU won’t be there!

LGBTQIA+ READING RECOMMENDATIONS: June is PRIDE month. Which makes it a great time to further our understanding of our LGBTQIA siblings, celebrate diversity within the church and affirm our commitment to love and welcome all into our church. Each week we will have a book recommendation to help you on this journey. A Time to Embrace: Same-Gender Relationships in Religion, Law, and Politics William Stacy Johnson As rhetoric continues to heat up on both sides of the debate over same-gender unions, clearly reasoned statements are in short supply. Watching this debate unfold, William Stacy Johnson found that he could be silent no longer. The result is this finely honed book.In A Time to Embrace Johnson presents a brilliant analysis of the religious, legal, and political stakes in the debates over gay marriage, civil unions, and the place of committed gay couples in a democratic society. Carefully weighing the pros and cons from across the moral and religious spectrum, Johnson here offers a fresh, thought-provoking examination of one of the most controversial issues in the West today.

OPINIONS NEEDED: Please see the insert in the Bulletin and let us know what kind of classes, activities or events you would like to see us organize. Place your insert in the offering plate or give it to Louise at the end of the service. We can’t wait to hear from you!

PRAYER GROUPS: This summer we will be starting small prayer groups. These groups will meet after church in June and before church in July. Each group will meet for about 15 min. The group leader will give a short lesson on prayer. Then the group will pray together for a specific area, ministry, or group of people. Sign up to be a leader or participant in using the insert in the Bulletin. Sign up for one Sunday or a few, it’s up to you. Place the insert in the offering plate or give it to Louise after the service.

ENGLISH: Holy Spirit, Giver of life, you guide and make holy the church you create; you give gifts- the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of council and fortitude, the spirit of knowledge and piety, the spirit of the fear of the Lord, that the whole creation may be transformed.

MANY: Come, Holy Spirit/ आओ, पवित्र आत्मा

      આવો, પવિત્ર આત્મા/ Ven, espíritu santo

✝GLORIA PATRI [BLUE#579] [GTG#581]

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,

world without end, Amen, Amen.

PROCLAMATION

FIRST LESSON [Pew Bible NT 119 or 111]             Acts 2:1-13

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, ‘Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.’ All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, ‘What does this mean?’ But others sneered and said, ‘They are filled with new wine.’

MEDITATION “Breaking Bread as Followers of Christ.”

Caroline Kothari

Second Lesson [ Pew Bible NT 148 or 158]         Romans 8:14-17

(BHTI)

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ—if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. (NRSV)

✝HYMN [*Blue#318] [GTG#291] “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness”

Refrain: Spirit Spirit of gentleness Blow through the wilderness

Calling and free, Spirit Spirit of restlessness

Stir me from placidness Wind wind on the sea

  1. You moved on the waters You called to the deep

Then You coaxed up the mountains From the valleys of sleep

And over the eons You called to each thing

Awake from your slumbers And rise on your wings (Refrain)

  1. You swept through the desert You stung with the sand

And You goaded Your people With a law and a land

And when they were blinded With their idols and lies

Then You spoke through Your prophets To open their eyes (Refrain)

Then You whispered in silence When the whole world was still

And down in the city You called once again

When You blew through Your people On the rush of the wind (Refrain)

From the bondage of sorrow The captives dream dreams

Our women see visions Our men clear their eyes

With bold new decisions Your people arise (Refrain)

DEVOTIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS: Pentecost: This Story is Our Story: Robert Menzies lays out clear, compelling, and concise truths about the relevance of the Pentecostal experience for Christ’s followers today, tomorrow, and the day after that. He does not agonize over whether this experience is right or wrong…he explains simply and clearly that the story of Pentecost found in the book of Acts is the story of every believer. With a keen intellectual presentation that is both informative and intriguing, he explains that Pentecostalism is Christ-centered and Bible-based. It is the model for the mission of the church.

Hallowed Be Thy Name

CALL TO WORSHIP Caleb Hebert

   ONE: Our Father Who Art In Heaven

MANY: Hallowed Be Thy Name

PRAYER OF THE DAY: Caleb Hebert

Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray, and to give more than we either desire or deserve. Pour upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things of which our conscience is afraid, and giving us those good things for which we are not worthy to ask, except through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ our Savior, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

HYMN[*Blue#589][GTG#464] “Our, Father Which Art in Heaven”

1 Our Father, which art in heaven:
hallowed-a be thy name.
Thy kingdom come; thy will be done:
hallowed-a be thy name.

2 On earth as it is in heaven:
hallowed-a be thy name.
Give us this day our daily bread:
hallowed-a be thy name.

3 And forgive us all our debts:
hallowed-a be thy name.
As we forgive our debtors:
hallowed-a be thy name.

4 And lead us not into temptation:
hallowed-a be thy name.
But deliver us from evil:
hallowed-a be thy name.

5 For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory:
hallowed-a be thy name.
Forever and ever, amen:
hallowed-a be thy name.

MESSAGE FOR THE CHILDREN Rev. Aaron Ochart

RESPONSE HYMN [GTG#469]

“Lord Listen to your Children Praying”

Lord, listen to your children praying.

Lord, send your Spirit in this place.

Lord, listen to your children praying.

Send us love; send us power; send us grace.

FORGIVE US OUR DEBTS

CALL TO CONFESSION: Deborah Nolan

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But when we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

SILENT CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION Deborah Nolan

O Lord our God, you call us to work for a world where all will be fed and have dignity, but we find ourselves distracted by our own desires. You call us to seek justice and peace, but we are satisfied with injustice and discord. You call us to bring liberty to the oppressed, but we do not insist on freedom for all. Forgive us, O Lord. Turn us to your will by the power of your Spirit, so that all may know your justice and peace; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Savior. Amen

ASSURANCE OF PARDON Deborah Nolan

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you;

✝RESPONSE HYMN [GTG#658] “God Is So Good”

God is so good; God is so good;
God is so good; God’s so good to me.

God cares for me; God cares for me;
God cares for me; God’s so good to me.

THY KINGDOM COME

SCRIPTURE Matt. 6: 7-14 Connor Boudreaux

‘When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

‘Pray then in this way:

Our Father in heaven,

   hallowed be your name.

   Your kingdom come.

   Your will be done,

     on earth as it is in heaven.

   Give us this day our daily bread.

   And forgive us our debts,

     as we also have forgiven our debtors.

   And do not bring us to the time of trial,

     but rescue us from the evil one.

For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

ONE: The Word of the Lord

MANY: Thanks be to God

THY WILL BE DONE

✝AFFIRMATION OF FAITH  Apostles’ Creed      Jonathan Zea

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

And in Jesus Christ [God’s] only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
