PRAYER OF THE DAY
O God, your blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of evil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life. Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
REPENTANCE
CALL TO CONFESSION
SILENT CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God,
we confess that we are too easily influenced by peddlers of despair and alarm, too quick to sink into numbness and apathy, too tired to imagine another way. Our hopes have crumbled, and our hearts are faint. Breathe new life into us, we pray. Help us to be mindful of your promises, your faithfulness, and your presence as we face the challenges of our lives. Restore our vision and give us courage to live in your truth. Amen.

HYMN [Blue#][GTG#250] “In the Bulb There Is a Flower” (Hymn of Promise)
1 In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree;
in cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
2 There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody;
there’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.
From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
3 In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;
in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity.
In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
SERMON “Challenging the Hypothec.” Rev. Martha J. Robson
RESPONSE
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostle’s Creed
I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
HYMN “Sing the Wondrous Love of Jesus” (When We All Get to Heaven) *see insert
The author of this hymn, Eliza Edmunds Hewitt, was a teacher who developed a spinal malady that left her an invalid. She began writing poetry for the use of her church, Calvin Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. Many of these were set to music, and today she is credited with over 2000 hymns in around 350 hymnals in six different languages. In 2020, Calvin Presbyterian joined with two other historically Black Presbyterian churches to form New River Church. Their website states: “Inspired by the legacies of faith which have shaped us, New River looks forward to a future of imaginative, innovative ministry for such a time as this.” www.newriverphilly.org
PARTING PRAYER
God of the living,
Strengthen our hearts and comfort us in every good word and deed. Grant us faith to trust You and awaken our spirits to true freedom in the power of Your resurrection. As we live in this world, may we hold fast to the hope that in You all are made alive through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
RESPONSE [Blue#][GTG#80] “You Shall Go Out
with Joy” (The Trees of the Field)
You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace;
the mountains and the hills will break forth before you;
There’ll be shouts of joy, and all the trees of the field
will clap, will clap their hands.
And all the trees of the field will clap their hands;
the trees of the field will clap their hands
The trees of the field will clap their hands while you go out with joy.
